Credentials
|
Acknowledgement of someone's right to a position of trust
or authority, eg a degree from a university.

Critical literacy
|
The ability of individuals to question, challenge, evaluate
and use information from a wide variety of sources effectively
and analytically.

Computer literacy
|
Development of skills to:
- present material in an effective way,
- read computer output irrespective of the application,
- have the ability to retrieve information from a range
of technologies.

|
Formative evaluation
|
The practice of building cumulative information on which
to base further work.
|
|
Generic skills
|
These are skills that teachers have identified as being useful
for planning. They are not subject-specific, but can be considered
competencies needed for learning for life. They can broadly
be described as Research, Communication, Solving Problems,
Using Technology, Critical Thinking, Task Management, Expression,
Cooperation and Citizenship.

Knowledge management
|
Knowledge management is a holistic resource management
practice that enables individuals in organisations to interact
with, utilise and add value to all the information knowledge

Information literacy
|
The ability to effectively access and evaluate information
for problem-solving and decision-making from a variety of
information technologies.

Information skills continuum
|
A planned series of skills that build on those previously
learned in order to achieve information literacy.

Information management
|
The process of acquiring and processing all print and non-print
resources in the library for all users. For the user it is
the process of defining, selecting, organising, recording
and presenting information confidently.

|
Any source of information including person, image, expert
radio interview, CD-ROM, website, print, photographs, primary/secondary
sources
|
|
Integrated curriculum
|
The purposeful planning by teachers of strategies and learning
experiences to facilitate and enhance learning across key
learning areas. It also refers to the demonstration by students
of knowledge and understanding, skills and values and attitudes
that transcend individual key learning areas. (Primary

|
Property related to the mind, eg in literary or artistic
fields

Pro forma
|
A planning form.
|

Resource validation
|
Verification of the reliability of a resource, both book
and non-book, by asking questions such as 'when' and/or 'where'
this was said, by whom and with what justification and credentials.
|
|
Summative evaluation
|
The practice of gathering, organising, interpreting and making
judgements on the effectiveness and appropriateness of the
planning process and program. It involves analysing student
achievement, the effectiveness of the learning experiences,
strategies and resources at the end of units of work, or the
end of a term or year of schooling and making changes for
the next plan.

Teacher-librarian
|
The manager of educational resources including technology.
A planner and teacher of information literacy in partnership
with other teachers, fostering a love of and appreciation
for literature.
