Teaching strategies for the learning experiences and assessment opportunities

The teacher:

  • explicitly teaches the language of position through modelling designed to address individual student needs. For example:
    • the teacher demonstrates position in relation to himself/herself when verbalising target language
    • the teacher demonstrates position in relation to the students when verbalising target language
    • the teacher demonstrates position in relation to objects when verbalising target language
  • provides opportunities for students to use and respond to target language through games and student modelling
  • assists students’ conceptual understanding by providing examples and non-examples of target language
  • records positional language on picture glossary cards to assist students during games and other learning experiences
  • records the target language used by each student for assessment purposes.
