Defining Mandatory Outcomes in the K-6 Curriculum
A Project of the Primary Curriculum Committee, Board of Studies NSW
Professor Gordon Stanley, President, Board of Studies NSW
The Time to Teach Time to Learn report on the evaluation of outcomes assessment and reporting in NSW government schools was released in November 2003 with a statement from the Deputy Premier accepting all the recommendations.
The Board of Studies has been working with teachers, principals and sectors to implement the recommendations in the report.
This consultation paper has been developed by the Board of Studies on the advice of its Primary Curriculum Committee and the working party convened by the Office of the Board to oversee the primary curriculum project which in 2002 began gathering information about the use teachers make of Board syllabuses.
The goal of this exercise is to reassure teachers that the K–6 curriculum requirements are flexible and manageable.
The Board is consulting with teachers and key stakeholder groups on its response to the recommendations of the Time to Teach Time to Learn report.
Information collected from the consultation meetings, completed surveys and stakeholder groups will be analysed by officers of the Board in consultation with the Primary Curriculum Committee and the Working Party. A report of the analysis and proposed actions will be considered by the Board in Term 1, 2005.
